Today, May 18, 2018, the U.S. House rejected the GOP farm bill by a vote of 198-213.  Thirty Republicans joined all House Democrats in voting against the bill.  House Republican leaders and members of the Freedom Caucus met last night in an attempt to resolve a stand-off over the farm bill and unrelated immigration legislation.  Some Freedom Caucus members were seeking a firmer commitment from House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) to schedule a vote on a conservative immigration bill to avoid being forced into a vote on more moderate alternatives.
